Only 8GB Graphics Card Required! Run the Most Powerful Llama 3.1 Locally with One-Click Setup

A few days ago, Meta released their largest open-source AI model to date—Llama 3.1. This model has demonstrated exceptional performance in multiple benchmark tests, even surpassing GPT-4o and Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

The newly released Llama 3.1 comes in three sizes: 8B (medium), 70B (large), and 405B (extra-large). Compared to the smaller Llama 3 models released a few months ago, Llama 3.1 is much more complex and powerful.

Llama 3.1: A New Era for Open-Source Models

In over 150 benchmark tests, the 405B version of Llama 3.1 has performed exceptionally well, matching or even surpassing the current SOTA models GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet. This marks the first time that an open-source model has outperformed closed-source models, heralding a new chapter in the field of artificial intelligence.

Model Capabilities and Architecture

Llama 3.1 extends the context length to 128K and adds support for eight new languages. The 405B version of the model showcases superior capabilities in commonsense reasoning, manipulability, mathematics, tool usage, and multilingual translation, surpassing existing top-tier models. Additionally, upgraded versions of the 8B and 70B models have been released, which are on par with top models of the same parameter size.

Training and Optimization

The Llama 3.1 405B model has been trained on over 15 trillion tokens, utilizing an optimized training stack and a computational scale of over 16,000 H100 GPUs. The model employs a standard decoder-only Transformer architecture with minor adjustments and iterative post-training processes, including SFT and DPO, to enhance performance.
